USMLE

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a 3-step examination based on the understanding the basic concepts and principles of medicine which provides medical licensure in the United States.

#Step 1 — an 8-hour  computer-based test taken in one day, which tests the knowledge of fundamental medical sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology and behavioural studies. The test examines the knowledge accumulated during the first two pre-clinical years at the American School of Medicine, which corresponds to the knowledge gained during the first three years in BSMU.

Students who study at the 6-year program begin their preparation to Step 1 at the beginning of their fourth year of studies. 
Students who study at the 4-year program begin their preparation to Step 1 at the beginning of their second year of studies.

#Step 2 CK (Clinical Knowledge) — a 9-hour test taken in one day, which tests the application of medical knowledge, skills and understanding of clinical science as required in patient care. The subjects included are internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, preventive medicine, surgery and psychiatry. 
Students who study at the 6-year program begin their preparation to Step 2 CK at the beginning of their sixth year of studies.

Students who study at the 4-year program begin their preparation to Step 2 CK at the beginning of their fourth year of studies.
